For a future trip planner, club or small group.
Seasons, logistics and a realistic plan for a cold-water freediving trip to Estonia.
Plan with a local team See the seasons →One instructor in the water with you, one skill at a time: relaxation, breathing, equalisation and safe, supervised depth in the pool.
Schedule, inclusions and prerequisites are confirmed by the team before you commit — nothing is charged online.
You leave with a working calm-water routine — not a list of topics. You learn to slow your breathing before a dive, to equalise early and gently, to trust a buddy system, and to end every dive with a clean recovery. The goal of the first course is not depth; it is that the water starts to feel like a place you can think in.
Introduction sessions and the full beginner course are different things — if you are unsure which you want, say so in the form and the team will explain both before you choose.
No dates are published yet — ask for the next one. You will get a personal reply from the team.
Rummu is a former prison work site that was flooded and left as it was. Diving it is worth doing properly: guided, with surface safety, and only when conditions allow.
A fundive is not a beginner course. It is for people who already have freediving training. Weather, water temperature, visibility and access change through the year — the final go/no-go is confirmed by the guide based on conditions.
Photo slot: a real Rummu gallery is on the missing-inputs list — current photos are from open-water training.
Weather-dependent · go/no-go by the guide · no one-click booking
We deliberately do not sell instant Rummu bookings: suitability, risks, conditions and cancellation are agreed person-to-person first. The story of the place itself — depths, seasons, what it is like — lives on freedive.ee, the Estonia destination guide.
Estonia rewards planning: the flooded quarry at Rummu, Baltic open water and a real winter with ice make different months genuinely different trips.
A flooded prison work site with structures still underwater, cold clear-water seasons, and under-ice diving in winter for those trained for it. The full destination story, month by month, is on freedive.ee.
Arrival and pool session in Tallinn; open-water or Rummu day when conditions allow; a flexible reserve day. We build the actual plan with you — there is no fixed package or package price.
Where you are travelling from, your window, how many days and people, your training level, and what you most want from the trip — Rummu, open water, pool work or photography.
Buddy principle, surface watch, clear signals, conservative limits, instructor in the water. The same discipline in the pool, at Rummu and under ice.

Training does not end with a certificate — see ongoing and private training below for how people keep practising here through the year.
For people living in Estonia and repeat visitors: regular pool sessions and open-water practice through the year, buddies to train with, and a level that actually develops. Schedules move with the seasons, so the honest way in is the updates list.
If your travel dates or working hours do not fit a group course, private and small-group coaching is arranged on request — same instructors, same safety process, your schedule.
No prior freediving experience is needed for the Start route — it is built for complete beginners. You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim; exact requirements are confirmed when you ask for a start date.
Yes, courses and guided dives are led in English as well as Estonian. Tell us your preferred language in the form and the session is planned accordingly.
No — a Rummu fundive is not a beginner course. It is a guided dive for people who already have freediving training; if you are new, begin with the Start route and Rummu can be your next step.
No dive is guaranteed: weather, water temperature, visibility and access at Rummu change, and the final go/no-go decision is made by the guide based on conditions. That decision process is part of what you are booking.
No — you do not need any breath-hold ability before the first session. The course starts from calm breathing and relaxation, and breath-hold grows out of technique; your first freedive is not a record attempt.
Pool sessions run in a heated pool, so cold is not part of your first steps. Estonian open water is cold most of the year, and open-water sessions use proper exposure protection — what you need and what can be arranged for you is agreed when you book.
A freediving certification or other credible proof of training, plus two honest answers: when you last dived and what depth you are comfortable at. The guide uses these to place you in a suitable group — cancellation and transfer terms are agreed in writing with your booking.
Six to twelve months ahead is a comfortable window for planning an Estonia freediving trip. That leaves room to match the season you want — summer open water or winter ice — with dates, group size and logistics.
